What is all this about?

This website contains memorabilia from Gorokan High School.  So far, I'm limiting it to MY year, which is the SECOND year of the school.

  • Year 7, 1977
  • Year 8, 1978
  • Year 9, 1979
  • Year 10, 1980
  • Year 11, 1981
  • Year 12, 1982

This site is most definitely under construction.  I'll be adding new stuff quite frequently, so keep checking it out.  Please SPREAD THE WORD by giving the URL out to anyone you know would be interested.

History

Gorokan High School started in 1976 in demountables at Dudley Street Gorokan, which is now the site of the Primary School.  The school was progressively filled, meaning that in the first year (1976) there was only a Year 7 class.  In this year there were sixteen teachers, 250 students, four ancillary staff, and three cleaners.

The following year (1977) it moved into brand new premises in Goobarabah Avenue Gorokan (technically now the suburb is Lake Haven).  Of course in this year it had only Years 7 & 8.  It steadily grew in both number of students and number of classrooms, with additional buildings being constructed in 1979 and 1980.  In the next couple of years, some more classrooms in the form of demountables were added!  The school population grew to about 1,400 students when there were finally all Years 7-12 attending.

The design of the school is based on the US collegiate system, meaning a large number of courtyards in various precincts (eg English precinct, Science precinct, etc).  This made it quite difficult for teachers to "patrol", as there were always a large number of areas students could be in, outside of class times.
