Hi Gang,

Hullo, well the world as we know it didn't end did it? And a "happy new year" to one and all. For those who can count in a linear fashion "happy new millennium", if you believe that's for next year then you need serious revision in basic math.

My millenium greeting message mostly had the correct date and time stamp but in a few instances your email server changed it to your local time. Sorry about that - beyond my control.

You are receiving this email because you elected to subscribe to the Ian Purdie's Newsletter list.

1.    Questions, diatribes, and cries for help should be directed toward

mailto:ianpurdie@integritynet.com.au?subject="Questions and diatribes"

I appreciate your participation in receiving my Newsletter so I will spare you any commercial hype this month.

Last month I asked the question re future Newsletters by email or a html page. Predictably only 7% responded with opinion sharply divided 51% to 49% so I will leave it at that for the moment.

***************************************************************************************************
It might pay you to print this Newsletter out now - it's as usual, about "I dunno" how many pages long

It does contain VALUABLE INFORMATION - PLEASE READ THROUGH

Now what's all the news up to the moment? Following our usual format:.

 3.     Has this newsletter proved useful?
 4.     What I'm personally up to.
 5.     Licensing Tutorial Course
 6.     Updates and further pages in coming month
 7.     QRP Quarterly magazine - absolutely brilliant
 8.     My customary damn lies and "statistics"
 9.     Feedback
10.    A few valuable but FREE! downloads - I use and recommend them of course.
11.    Bookstore coming
12.    All right I've included one joke by popular demand.

***************************************************************************************************
3.     Is this Newsletter particularly useful?

Who would know? I found the above 7% response somewhat alarming.

4.     What I'm personally up to

I'm moving toward my own domain name site. I've registered www.electronic-project.com  and I'm doing a total rewrite of the whole site. I haven't finally settled on a hosting service so it's not yet operational.

"Now out of date"

Virtually none of the links work yet but you can try a couple near the top, both left and right hand columns.

I'm looking for volunteers to beta test this new site when I've set it up. Can you help?

5.     Licensing Tutorial Course

The first lessons are now in print on my web site for all to see.

http://my.integritynet.com.au/purdic/aocp_part1a.htm

http://my.integritynet.com.au/purdic/aocp_part2.htm

Part 1 is still incomplete and delayed by the above.

***************************************************************************************************
6.     Updates, new pages and further pages in coming month

Yes one gigantic update as above

***************************************************************************************************
7.    A plug for one of the most excellent electronics magazines available.

This is NOT commercial hype. Pure voluntary because I really believe in this magazine.

QRP Quarterly (the Journal of the QRP Amateur Radio Club, International) is published  not surprising, four times a year, by a group of dedicated volunteers, all on a non-profit basis. It has a long and prestigious history. Last issue was October, 1999 and comprised 62 pages.

Every issue is jam packed with interesting articles by some of the biggest names in the amateur radio / professional electronics industry. Circuits and schematics galore. It is truly a professional and polished publication.

If you are simply interested in becoming an amateur radio operator this will be a big help.

The cost (low because of the slave labour factor) is:

U.S.A. - $15.00    CANADA - $US 18.00    ELSEWHERE - $US 20.00

I thoroughly recommend it and as always with my recommendations, I've subscribed to it myself.

A form is available at: http://www.qrparci.org/arcijoin.html  If you could print it out and use, it would be much appreciated by all concerned.

Don't forget to tell 'em Ian VK2TIP sent you.

Visit QRP Amateur Radio Club, International - URL: http://www.qrparci.org

8.     Damn lies and "statistics"

A small drop in stats owing to the holiday season the last two weeks of the month

***************************************************************************************************
9.     Feedback

Well tell me what you think.

Without feedback I don't know where to go.

***************************************************************************************************
10.    Real COOL but FREE! downloads -

None this month

***************************************************************************************************
11.    My online bookstore

Put on hold

***************************************************************************************************
12.    Humour

Too long to include here so you will have to go to:

http://my.integritynet.com.au/purdic/funnyjoke1.htm

Do you have a nice set of speakers but the foam on the edges is shot?

So, for speaker rebuilding kits see http://www.newfoam.com

I have no connection with them.
