Hi Gang,
You are of course receiving this email because you elected to subscribe
to the Ian Purdie's Monthly Newsletter list.
PLEASE: If you change email addresses please try and let me know. Each
month I get about 3 - 5 undeliverable. Thanks to those who do notify me.
I hope you had a look at the new tutorial site http://www.electronics-tutorials.com/
because I have since added newer pages, improved the navigation etc.
WIN
Yep I'm running three little competitions this month. The prizes of
Philips mouse mats (nice) were, not surprisingly, donated by Philips
electronic components. I understand some come equipped with a calculator?
- more later down throughout the page - meanwhile back to normal.
Please also note: I do NOT sell or rent the email addresses belonging
to my subscribers: I respect your privacy!. To unsubscribe from this newsletter,
please see the end of this newsletter - would you do THAT? - I put
the jokes in at the end honest!..
I certainly appreciate your participation in receiving my Newsletter.
If you appreciate it then you can either give me a rating or review these
newsletters

2. My questions?
This month I have one important question, please help out:
Any of my readers work for National, Motorola, Intersil? I need direct
contacts into their data / applications notes departments. Must be someone
somewhere because Motorola and HP proxy my sites every week. Same applies
to any other semiconductor or IC manufacturer. Know someone, who know's
someone? Usually seems to work.
BTW Thanks to Philips for their very generous donation of updated data
books, that will translate later into more tutorials and projects.
Any of the readers have links from their site to mine? Sensible reason
for this question. Please write to me.

3. Projects in pipeline
4. What I'm personally up to.
5. Are you a technical Author? - still
6. Updates and further pages in coming
month
7. QRP Quarterly magazine - absolutely
brilliant - I'm amazed
8. My customary damn lies and "statistics"
and milestones
9. Feedback
10. Free downloads - I recommend you look at these.
11. I'm told in no uncertain terms - no joke - I unsubscribe.
Okay can't argue with that logic so here's some goodies.
***************************************************************************************************
There are now 80 pages on the new site, a few incomplete and some messed
up totally, - don't even ask. Expect literally 100's more over the next
twelve months.
***************************************************************************************************
(a) Obviously see 3 above, but I'm still up to my ears in
"parish pump" politics with a HUGE win under my belt on behalf of all people
who enjoy recreational style living in manufactured homes parks. The Director-General's
new guidelines include five of my seven suggested amendments. I'm stoked.
Park management's across the State may "take a contract" out on me <g>
(b) When I fix it (thanks for the notes) - for the
archival of all previous newsletters back to the very beginning (some good
free stuff! too!) -
http://my.integritynet.com.au/purdic/newsletters.htm
***************************************************************************************************
This was a genuine request with a few enquiries but no follow ups from
me sorry about that - tell a friend or a colleague as well - spread the
word:

the links to become famous. See your name in lights, well

Flashing lights etc.
(a) Competition No. 1 for the mouse mats. Please review my new site
http://www.electronics-tutorials.com and get back to me with your opinions.
The three I judge the best and constructive (not necessarily flattering)
win a Philips "mouse mat".
(b) Competition No. 2 - This relates to a new page http://www.electronics-tutorials.com/filters/filter-software.htm
where I review and give a worked example of Neil Heckt's "Filter Design
Software", in this case a crystal ladder filter. Check out it out at:
(c) Competition No. 3 - Because I'm having difficulty keeping up with
email questions, especially from electronics professionals, I have set
up an electronics discussion group for those people professionally engaged
in the industry one way or another. If you do / did work in electronics
or have an electronics background the go to http://www.electronics-tutorials.com/Q&A.htm
and follow the sign up process with E-groups, then send us all a test email.
***************************************************************************************************
You haven't invested $US 20.00 in the most excellent QRP-Quarterly magazine
yet - cheaper if you live in the USA?
Because today I received the July, 2000 quarter issue. Contained articles
ranging from a crafty cheap loop antenna, hints on surface mount
projects, a story on the folded dipole with heaps of technical info and
pictures of lots of boofheads like me. All told 72 action packed pages.
Told you to subscribe. Visit QRP Amateur Radio Club, International -
URL: http://www.qrparci.org
And while on the topic of plugs go and have a look at the magnificent
job young Daniel from Queensland has done for amateur radio
Young Daniel has told me other things by email but I've lost them, no
doubt he'll rip back.
***************************************************************************************************
I've made a total mess of the stats for the "old" site but judging by
other indicators, still climbing.
***************************************************************************************************
(a) Don't be shy. Be one of the three people who tell me what they think,
be polite.
(b) Be courageous - tell two friends about this newsletter. Test your
cut and paste skills.

***************************************************************************************************
Well nothing much this month because I'm saving them up - I did come
across a few particularly exciting ones. Be patient.
***************************************************************************************************
No. 1:
And, lo, it came to pass that the trader by the name of Abraham Com
did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot. And Dot Com was
a comely woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she had been
called Amazon Dot Com. And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why doth
thou travel far from town to town with thy goods, when thou can trade without
ever leaving thy tent?"
And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short
of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?" And Dot
Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with
the drums. And Dot said, "There will be a lot of banging in the
And Abraham replied, "It is my most fervent wish that this be so." And
the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the
goods he had, at the top price, without ever moving from his tent.
But his success did arouse envy. A man named Maccabia did secret himself
inside Abraham's drum and was accused of insider trading.
And the young did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly
to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Siderites,
or NERDS for short.
And, lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the
deafening sound of drums, that no one noticed that the real richeswere
going to the drum maker, one Brother William of Gates, who bought up every
drum company in the land. And indeed did insist on making drums that would
only work if you bought Brother William's drumsticks.
And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over
by others." And as Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or as it
came to be known, "eBay," he said, "We need a name of a service that reflects
what we are." And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators."
"Whoopee!" said Abraham.
"No, YAHOO!" said Dot Com
THE OLD MAN AND THE C: PROMPT
There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to
become a great writer. When asked to define great, he said, "I want to
write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react
to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them
He now works for Microsoft writing error messages.
